UrbanRural SOLUTIONS, an extensive collaborative project, focused on the interaction between urban centers and rural areas with lower population density in order to stabilize the provision of public services in the region. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung – BMBF) funded the innovation group coordinated by TU Hamburg-Harburg from 2015 to 2019.

services of general interest

The ARL was one partner out of thirteen from various disciplines. Experts from spatial and transport planning and economic and innovation sciences cooperated with municipal administrations from three regions: the city of Cologne (and surrounding area), the extended economic area of Hanover (Erweiterter Wirtschaftsraum Hannover) and the district of Göttingen.

The group developed solutions for services of general interest, initiated concrete projects and created implementation tools.

Experts in the provision of public services, such as municipal administrations, retail businesses, the associations of statutory health insurance (Kassenärztliche Vereinigungen) as well as physicians and medical professionals participated in regional workshops from the beginning.

In this way, all actors developed the basis for further implementation of measures by regional stakeholders in the three regions after the end of the project.
