Since April 2024, the ARL has been a formal member of the Regional Studies Association. Prior to membership, there were mutual discussions to strategically utilise thematic synergies and link professional networks in cooperation with the RSA, aiming to further enhance the visibility and global presence of the ARL and its network.

The RSA is an internationally operation professional association focusing on regional studies, science, and planning issues. Similar to the ARL, the RSA addresses not only academia but also practice and political decision-makers.

Through its membership, the ARL gains access to the entire RSA publication portfolio, which includes six journals, two book series, an online magazine, and the RSA Blog. This includes annual subscriptions to the academic journals Regional Studies, Spatial Economic Analysis, Territory, Politics, Governance, Area Development and Policy, Regional Science, and the RSA Regions eZine e-magazine, as well as Policy Impact books.

Furthermore, participation in international RSA conferences and events (both in-person and online) provides the ARL with the opportunity to contribute to its interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary expertise to the international discourse and relevant knowledge networks. Additionally, there are plans for a joint online event series, and ideas are in place for a joint event to promote early careers in 2026.
