Space in the Alps is limited and subject to increasingly intensive land use, including for energy generation. The energy transition and renaturation often conflict with each other. How can Alpine spatial planning mediate between the various competing demands? How can it manage the land use pressure on mountain regions and connect experts from the relevant disciplines?

These and other questions will be addressed at CIPRA's annual conference 2025. The event is organised in cooperation with the ARL European Working Group ‘AlpPlan - alpine spatial planning network’, which is collaborating with CIPRA on the development of policy and planning recommendations to strengthen the cross-sectoral coordination function of Alpine spatial planning. The focus is on an integrative approach to urgent spatial challenges such as energy system transformation, climate change adaptation and the safeguarding or restoration of biodiversity.
