Wha tstrategies for reducing land use are appropriate in European countries? How can we learn from one another, and what fundamental issues are becoming apparent?

The international working group Land Take in Europe - In Pursuit of Net Zero met for its first live workshop at HOGENT University in Ghent (Belgium). The event was hosted by Dr. Ir. Peter Lacoere, who, together with Prof. Thomas Hartmann (co-chair of the working group), led the group through intensive discussions on the land-use target of Net Zero. Participants from 11 countries discussed country-specific approaches to reducing land use in plenary sessions and workshops. In particular, the obstacles to ambitious strategies were discussed, but participants also learned from best practices and made extensive use of the opportunity for collaboration.

The IAK agreed on a joint, ambitious work program for the next two years and discussed shared products and additional knowledge transfer formats.

A group of around 20 people stands together on a sunny rooftop terrace, posing for a photo. The group includes men and women dressed in casual to business-casual clothing. Behind them are low historic buildings and a tall church tower, while a modern glass structure lines one side of the terrace. The sky is clear and blue, casting strong sunlight and shadows across the wooden deck.
