The concept of spatial justice encapsulates several diverse theoretical, political, and normative strands. It sheds light on how resources are allocated across different types of localities and how spatial patterns influence, enhance, or confine people in their opportunities. Therefore, the International Summer School 2022 “Exploring Spatial Justice in times of disruptions” invited international PhD students to Stockholm. There, the challenges in territorial development, such as spatial inequalities, were debated.

The special issue in European Journal on Spatial Development is an outcome of the summer school. It summarizes the results and opens up the discussion on the conceptual, methodological, and empirical contributions that explore the notion of spatial justice and related perspectives, as well as an understanding of the implications for spatial justice.

All contributions are open access.
