Information

Sofia Morgado is an Architect with an MSc in Contemporary Architectural Culture and Modern Society (FA-TU Lisboa), a PhD in Urbanism (ETSAB/UPC, Barcelona), and Habilitation for Full Professors (FA-TU Lisboa). Main interests cover Urban Planning and Design, Contemporary Urbanism and the Metropolitan Realm, focusing on public space, urban requalification and heritage. She has been actively involved in international and national research networks. She lectures Urbanism at the Lisbon School of Architecture, Universidade de Lisbon, since 1997. However, she has also lectured and was a speaker in several countries, including Canada, Colombia, Germany, the UK, Poland, Spain, and Sweden. Over the last years, she has been involved in or coordinated international conferences and urban design workshops in partnership with colleagues from different universities and local authorities in various cities and countries. Appointments as Expert (Societal Challenges) (European Commission), National Delegate (Portugal) at ERAC/SWG/GR&I (European Council), Member of CoRep of AESOP-Association of European Schools of Planning, and various contributions to the International Society for Cities and Regional Planning (Chair of the Scientific Committee, among others), opened the door to critical issues where urban intervention could contribute to improving people's quality of life.
