The ARL invites to the conference
Spatial Planning and Research in Europe 1945-1975
on 6-7 October 2022 in Berlin.

The ARL Congress 2022, which the Academy organised together with the REGIONALE 2022 UrbanLand team on 30 June and 1 July 2022 in Bielefeld, highlighted many aspects of digitalisation and its impact on spaces and spatial planning. 

Call for Young Academic (YA) Authors to work in collaboration with distinguished Prof. Alberto Magnaghi and another YA author reflecting on his work in planning theory and practices.

The ARL – Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association in cooperation with Stockholm University is inviting applications for the ARL International Summer School 2022 on “Exploring Spatial Justice in times of disruptions”, which will take place from Wed. 24 August to Sat. 27 August 2022 in Stockholm. The summer school will be held in English.

The Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association (ARL) is currently establishing an international Information and Initiative Group “Gender and Spatial Transformation” and is looking for participants.

The workshop will take place online on 30th and 31st of August 2022. The workshop aims to bring together Early Career Researchers based in the UK or Germany to exchange knowledge and experience around novel theories, strategies and methods in urban design and planning of public spaces for promoting health and wellbeing in cities particularly in the context of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

In the beginning of April 2022, a hybrid meeting took place in the premises of the Spatial Planning and Environment Department of the Polytech Tours in Tours, France. The the group fruitfully discussed intermediate results of subgroups‘ work. 

The anthology "A New Beginning? Spatial Planning and Research in Europe between 1945 and 1975" edited by Detlef Briesen and Wendelin Strubelt is published by Campus Frankfurt/New York. The book presented here is the basis for a major scientific symposium that the editors will organise in the course of 2022. The conference and this publication are supported by the ARL – Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association.

The English translation of the ARL working report BORDER FUTURES – ZUKUNFT GRENZE – AVENIR FRONTIÈRE - The future viability of cross-border cooperation has just been published!

Small Towns and Metropolitan Cores: Functional Relations, Spatial Imaginaries and Cooperation Arrangements. 

The working group launches a call for contributions to an online seminar. The invitation is open to any academic who is interested to debate about the relationships between metropolitan regions and small towns in the European context, now and in the future.
